Nigeria Chapter

ASHRAE

ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter (Chapter 187) was chartered on 25 October 2009 and formally inaugurated on 23 March 2010, with approximately 124 professionals drawn from the built environment. Dr. Walid Chakroun, then a Region-at-Large leader, participated in the chartering via Skype—an unusual and memorable moment in the chapter’s founding.

The chapter grew from the work of a steering committee led by Engr. Babatunde A. Badru, who became its charter president. Its first officers included Kehinde Olaniyi as president-elect, Sesan Daramola as vice president and Devendra Munot as secretary, alongside Board of Governors members E. O. Olabiran and Olufemi Olatunji. Their work laid the foundation for a professional community committed to advancing knowledge and practice in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.

At its founding, the chapter was assigned to serve 15 geographical areas: Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. Ghana has since become a full chapter in its own right. Today, the Nigeria Chapter continues to bring professionals, students and industry partners together through technical learning, professional development and volunteer service.
